Background
About me
My teaching background
I started teaching shortly after moving to Argentina in 2010. The idea of teaching had honestly never appealed to me very much, but that completely changed when I stood up to do my first 20-minute teaching session on my CELTA course. I can still remember the surprise of that moment, and how completely natural and exciting it felt to be teaching.
After completing the CELTA I got my first teaching job in Buenos Aires, before moving to Colombia where I spent two years at International House Bogotá. I then spent six years teaching at Kheiron School of English in Oxford - this is where I began to specialise in teaching advanced General English and exam preparation classes. Completing the year-long Cambridge DELTA course in 2013 deepened my theoretical and practical understanding of English teaching, and helped solidify my own pedagogical approach centred on spontaneity, authentic communication and emergent language.
After five years as Director of Studies at Kheiron, my wife and I moved down to North Devon with our baby daughter. At this point I made the transition to online teaching, and have been working in that way ever since.
I've been teaching for 15 years now, and that feeling I had in my first CELTA lesson is still with me. I'm fascinated by language, and I love the challenge of explaining the complexities of English to students. It's incredibly rewarding to see my students improve over time and achieve their goals, whether that's passing an exam, getting a job, or simply improving their confidence and fluency in English.
Outside the classroom
I live in North Devon, which is a beautiful place in the South West of the UK. I spend as much of my spare time as possible outdoors: surfing, walking, running and wild camping. I also love reading, cooking, growing chillies, and spending time with my wife and two young daughters.
